PRESTO "THREE PIECE" VARIABLE WEIGHT REGULATOR
We also have available a three piece Presto regulator that can be used on the 23 quart canner. This regulator allows the canner to be used at 5, 10 or 15 pounds per square inch of pressure without regulating the heat source and monitoring the pressure gauge. What this means is that if you will be using the canner at an elevation of less than 305 metres above sea level, you simply adjust the regulator for 10 pounds and maintain the heat source so the regulator rocks gently during the entire processing time. No more tedious monitoring of the pressure gauge and adjusting of the heat source to maintain the correct pressure.
If you are uncomfortable about not relying on your pressure guage, bear in mind that Presto now manufacture a canner with the same three piece regulator and no guage at all; the All American range of Canners has operated in this way for years.
Having used both methods, we can assure you that using the regulator to control the pressure rather than the heat source and the gauge is a simpler and more reliable way to go!!
